Gaps appearing after a few months
Flooring expands and contracts. Without an expansion gap at the perimeter it has nowhere to move, so it lifts or gaps instead.
Damp in older Bristol houses
Suspended timber floors in Victorian terraces need their airbricks clear. Laying over a damp subfloor will ruin a new floor, so it gets checked first.

Yes. Supply only fitting is fine. It helps to know the brand and type before quoting so the right underlay and trims are allowed for.
Do you move furniture?
Light furniture can usually be moved as part of the job. Heavy or fragile items are best cleared beforehand, and this will be agreed in advance.
How long does a room take?
A straightforward room is often a day. Subfloor levelling, awkward shapes and lots of door thresholds add time, and that is reflected in the quote.
